Bed and Breakfast
Broomelea, built in 1909, is a fine example of a Federation home. The construction was financed by a Mrs Norman who also inspected the building of the home, as her husband lived in Broome. Broomelea was one of the fine houses of Leura and was built for 2,000 pounds, a great deal of money at that time.
Mr Hugh Davis Norman, her husband, went to Broome from Sydney in 1887 and started a pearling business there. He would come to Leura in the winter. A ship owner from Ashfield, Mr Norman bought two lots of land and Broomelea was built on one of those lots. Mr Norman eventually left Broome in 1932 to live in Perth.
The last time members of the Norman family lived at Broomelea was in 1917. The house was sold soon after.
In the late 1980s and early 1990s the house was extended and became available for Bed and Breakfast. The present owners, Bryan and Denise Keith, are delighted to share their home and garden with their guests.
