| The Barossa and Eden Valleys are
situated about an hour’s drive north east of
Adelaide. With the first vineyards appearing in the
1840s, the area has experienced a colourful history,
which has shaped the development of this stunning
region.
The contrasting climatic conditions of the two
regions have resulted in a diverse range of wines.
The Barossa Valley, classified as a warm climate,
provides excellent conditions for full-bodied wines
with Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache
dominating the red plantings.
The Eden Valley is a cooler grape-growing region
enhanced by higher altitude and hilly landscapes.
The cooler temperatures are reflected in the wines,
which produce finer, more elegant velvety flavours
than the neighbouring Barossa Valley. The main red
varieties produced in the Eden Valley are Shiraz,
Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir.
Many producers blend fruit sourced from these two
regions to create a wine with greater structure and
depth. This results in a more complex, interesting
product, which is more approachable when younger. |
